Triple bunk beds can be the perfect solution for those who have two or three children below the age of 10.  Even if you only have a single child, you may decide that it is more economical to research triple bunk beds before you make your final selection.

Most configurations are in a bed-over-bed-over-bed design.  This means that the beds are literally stacked on top of one another.  This poses a problem if you have low ceiling heights in your home so you will want to make sure that you take careful measurements of the room for which the triple bunk bed is intended.  Make sure you take into account any low hanging light fixtures especially if that light fixture is a ceiling fan!  You don’t want a bed located near the fan to eliminate any potential injury or other temptation.

This configuration typically has a separate ladder for both the elevated second and third level beds.  Make sure that safety rails are provided for both sides other elevated beds even if you plan to have the triple bunk beds up against a wall.  You may not leave it this way in the future so make sure you get these rails for the future even if you don’t need them now.

Another popular configuration for triple bunk beds is called the Triple Lindy Bunk Bed.  In this configuration , the beds are in an “l-shaped” configuration with one bunk on the bottom and two bunk beds on top in an end-to-top side configuration forming the “L”.  This design can save a lot of bedroom space because you can place a dresser or a desk under the single, upper-level bed.

Sleepovers – If your child often has a sleepover with one or two friends, triple bunk beds can make an excellent solution for accommodating the occasional visit from friends or relatives without any need to rearrange furniture and break out temporary cots or sleeping bags.

Lack of Bedroom Space – If you live in a small apartment, a condo community or in a small house, triple bunk beds can provide you with an excellent sleep solution.  Depending on the configuration you find, a triple bunk bed can give you the most sleep space in a very small area.   In many cases you can fit three beds into the space of a single!
